Legal Advisor
Legal Advisors are employed by large companies to provide counsel in legal matters.
The Role
- Overseeing all client and vendor contracts
- Providing commercially sensible and cost effective legal advice for construction contracts management
- Conducting legal research in various areas
- Drafting basic legal documents for construction projects
- Ensuring compliance to construction laws and regulations
- Preparing contracts and damage claims
- Resolving buy-sell disputes and property infringements
- Providing arbitration, litigation and mediation support
- Advising on complex or the latest building standards
- Recommending effective solutions for building code violations
- Interpreting building standards to main stakeholders
- Overseeing health and safety and injury claims and offering advice on court cases
- Meeting and interviewing clients
- Taking a client's instructions
- Drafting documents, letters and contracts
- Acting on behalf of clients in disputes, if necessary
- Most full time positions are 40 hours a week
Salary
- Starting salary for a trainee Legal Advisor is in the region of £19,000 and £25,000 per year
- Trained with experience Legal Advisors can earn in the region of £25,000 and £60,000
- Senior Legal Advisors can earn in excess of £60,000 a year
Qualifications & Training
To become a Legal Advisor you will need to have completed the academic stage of training to become a barrister or solicitor.
This means completing either a law degree or a postgraduate qualification.
This might involve completing the Common Professional Examination (CPE) or Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) followed by either the Legal Practice Course (LPC) to become a solicitor or the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) to become a barrister.
